Beginner Class for Ages 6-12

The ancient Asian game of Go is fun to learn and play. for developing minds it enhances logical thinking and spatial reasoning.

This 6-week class is for beginner's - no prior knowledge or experience needed.

Instructor Joshua Lee has been teaching children in our Family Go program since the opening of the NGC over two years ago. He is a PhD candidate at George Mason University, a highly skilled Go player, and an enthusiastic teacher.

Josh will be assisted by Frederick Bao one of the strongest youth players in the United States. Fred is passionate about sharing Go, and recently won first place at the US Open, a premiere American Go event.

The class will start with the rules and fundamentals, and progress through basic concepts of capturing, counting and making territory, and connecting stones to make strong shape. Interactive problem solving and games on smaller (9x9) boards are part of the fun.

Each child will receive their own workbook ($15 value) with exercises they can practice between classes, and fun manga comics that explain Go while telling stories.
