Fall Class Schedule

The Fall term for classes begins the week after Labor Day and runs through October. The National Go Center has always been a welcoming place teaching any beginners on an informal drop-in basis during open hours. We are excited to announce new formal Beginner Classes for both children and adults.

Josh Lee, who has been instructing in our Family Go program for the past two years will lead the 6-week Saturday children's class. He will be ably assisted by young Frederick Bao, an emerging star on the American Go scene.

For adults and youth 13+ there is a 3-week introduction on Tuesday nights that will give absolute beginner's confidence to play the game and knowledge of its history and culture.

Go players have graded levels similar to martial arts with Dan levels corresponding to black belts, and Kyu levels equating to the colored belts leading up to black belt. Daniel Chou, a 6 Dan player, will share his passion for teaching Go and lead a 6-week class for Kyu players helping them move towards Shodan (first level Dan player).

Yuan Zhou's popular monthly workshop for players ranging in strength from 9-Kyu to 5-Dan have now been incorporated into the class schedule. In these full-day Sunday workshops students study a famous professional game in depth in the morning. In the afternoon they pair up and play a game and the games are then reviewed, one of the best ways to learn and improve.
